1. Confirm the Indian plan is QROPS listed and obtain its QROPS reference number.
2. Complete the receiving scheme administrator form so the Indian plan is in place.
3. Collect the IRDAI certificate, HMRC QROPS certificate and plan brochure.
4. Submit the member form to your UK provider. This starts the 60-day APSS263 clock.
5. Return APSS263 and the transfer-out form together with your KYC documents.
6. Answer any due diligence questions from the UK provider.
7. Funds are transferred and the Indian plan is issued.

How long does the process take?

Between two weeks and six months. Most transfers complete in eight to twelve weeks. Defined contribution pensions from modern providers move fastest. Defined benefit and older occupational schemes take longest, because trustees must calculate a transfer value and complete additional checks.

Frequently asked questions

What are the four forms needed for a QROPS transfer?
The member form, the transfer-out form, HMRC form APSS263, and the receiving scheme administrator form.

What is APSS263?
HMRC’s member information form for transfers to a QROPS. It must be given to your UK scheme administrator within 60 days of your transfer request.

Do I send APSS263 to HMRC?
No. It goes to your UK pension scheme administrator.

Why is the IRDAI certificate needed?
It proves the receiving Indian plan is a regulated pension product, which is a requirement for QROPS status.

What KYC documents are required?
Passport, UK visa or residence details, National Insurance number, PAN, Indian address proof, bank proof and your latest UK pension statement.

Can I complete these forms myself?
For most defined contribution pensions, yes. In practice most delays come from missed deadlines, wrong forms or incorrect certification, so guided assistance usually saves several weeks.
